First Reading
1 Kings 3:5, 7-12
The LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream at night.
God said, “Ask something of me and I will give it to you.”
Solomon answered:
“O LORD, my God, you have made me, your servant, king
to succeed my father David;
but I am a mere youth, not knowing at all how to act.
I serve you in the midst of the people whom you have chosen,
a people so vast that it cannot be numbered or counted.
Give your servant, therefore, an understanding heart
to judge your people and to distinguish right from wrong.
For who is able to govern this vast people of yours?”
The LORD was pleased that Solomon made this request.
So God said to him:
“Because you have asked for this
not for a long life for yourself,
nor for riches,
nor for the life of your enemies,
but for understanding so that you may know what is right
I do as you requested.
I give you a heart so wise and understanding
that there has never been anyone like you up to now,
and after you there will come no one to equal you.”
Primera Lectura
Reyes 3, 5-13
En aquellos días, el Señor se le apareció al rey Salomón en sueños y le dijo: “Salomón, pídeme lo que quieras, y yo te lo daré”.
Salomón le respondió: “Señor, tú trataste con misericordia a tu siervo David, mi padre, porque se portó contigo con lealtad, con justicia y rectitud de corazón. Más aún, también ahora lo sigues tratando con misericordia, porque has hecho que un hijo suyo lo suceda en el trono. Sí, tú quisiste, Señor y Dios mío, que yo, tu siervo, sucediera en el trono a mi padre, David. Pero yo no soy más que un muchacho y no sé cómo actuar. Soy tu siervo y me encuentro perdido en medio de este pueblo tuyo, tan numeroso, que es imposible contarlo. Por eso te pido que me concedas sabiduría de corazón, para que sepa gobernar a tu pueblo y distinguir entre el bien y el mal. Pues sin ella, ¿quién será capaz de gobernar a este pueblo tuyo tan grande?”
Al Señor le agradó que Salomón le hubiera pedido sabiduría y le dijo: “Por haberme pedido esto, y no una larga vida, ni riquezas, ni la muerte de tus enemigos, sino sabiduría para gobernar, yo te concedo lo que me has pedido. Te doy un corazón sabio y prudente, como no lo ha habido antes, ni lo habrá después de ti. Te voy a conceder, además, lo que no me has pedido: tanta gloria y riqueza, que no habrá rey que se pueda comparar contigo”.

Romanos 8, 28-30
Hermanos: Ya sabemos que todo contribuye para bien de los que aman a Dios, de aquellos que han sido llamados por él, según su designio salvador.

Matthew 13:44-52
Jesus said to his disciples:
“The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field,
which a person finds and hides again,
and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant
searching for fine pearls.
When he finds a pearl of great price,
he goes and sells all that he has and buys it.
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net thrown into the sea,
which collects fish of every kind.
When it is full they haul it ashore
and sit down to put what is good into buckets.
What is bad they throw away.
Thus it will be at the end of the age.
The angels will go out and separate the wicked from the righteous
and throw them into the fiery furnace,
where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.
“Do you understand all these things?”
They answered, “Yes.”
And he replied,
“Then every scribe who has been instructed in the kingdom of heaven
is like the head of a household
who brings from his storeroom both the new and the old.”

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: “El Reino de los cielos se parece a un tesoro escondido en un campo. El que lo encuentra lo vuelve a esconder y, lleno de alegría, va y vende cuanto tiene y compra aquel campo.
El Reino de los cielos se parece también a un comerciante en perlas finas que, al encontrar una perla muy valiosa, va y vende cuanto tiene y la compra.
También se parece el Reino de los cielos a la red que los pescadores echan en el mar y recoge toda clase de peces. Cuando se llena la red, los pescadores la sacan a la playa y se sientan a escoger los pescados; ponen los buenos en canastos y tiran los malos. Lo mismo sucederá al final de los tiempos: vendrán los ángeles, separarán a los malos de los buenos y los arrojarán al horno encendido. Allí será el llanto y la desesperación.
¿Han entendido todo esto?” Ellos le contestaron: “Sí”. Entonces él les dijo: “Por eso, todo escriba instruido en las cosas del Reino de los cielos es semejante al padre de familia, que va sacando de su tesoro cosas nuevas y cosas antiguas”.
