O come, let us worship God
and bow low before the God who made us,
for he is the Lord our God. (Psalm 95:6-7)

First Reading

Isaiah 58:7-10

Thus says the LORD:
   Share your bread with the hungry,
      shelter the oppressed and the homeless;
   clothe the naked when you see them,
      and do not turn your back on your own.
   Then your light shall break forth like the dawn,
      and your wound shall quickly be healed;
   your vindication shall go before you,
      and the glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard.
   Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer,
      you shall cry for help, and he will say: Here I am!
   If you remove from your midst
      oppression, false accusation and malicious speech;
   if you bestow your bread on the hungry
      and satisfy the afflicted;
   then light shall rise for you in the darkness,
      and the gloom shall become for you like midday.

Primera Lectura

Isaías 58, 7-10

Esto dice el Señor:
“Comparte tu pan con el hambriento,
abre tu casa al pobre sin techo,
viste al desnudo
y no des la espalda a tu propio hermano.

Entonces surgirá tu luz como la aurora
y cicatrizarán de prisa tus heridas;
te abrirá camino la justicia
y la gloria del Señor cerrará tu marcha.

Entonces clamarás al Señor y él te responderá;
lo limarás, y él te dirá: ‘Aquí estoy’.

Cuando renuncies a oprimir a los demás
y destierres de ti el gesto amenazador
y la palabra ofensiva;
cuando compartas tu pan con el hambriento
y sacies la necesidad del humillado,
brillará tu luz en las tinieblas
y tu oscuridad será como el mediodía”.

Light shines through the darkness for the upright;
   he is gracious and merciful and just.

An evil report he shall not fear;
   his heart is firm, trusting in the LORD.

Verse 3:

His heart is steadfast; he shall not fear.
   Lavishly he gives to the poor;

1 Corinthians 2:1-5

When I came to you, brothers and sisters,
   proclaiming the mystery of God,
   I did not come with sublimity of words or of wisdom.
For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you
   except Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
I came to you in weakness and fear and much trembling,
   and my message and my proclamation
   were not with persuasive words of wisdom,
   but with a demonstration of Spirit and power,
   so that your faith might rest not on human wisdom
   but on the power of God.

Segunda Lectura

Corintios 2, 1-5

Hermanos: Cuando llegué a la ciudad de ustedes para anunciarlas el Evangelio, no busqué hacerlo mediante la elocuencia del lenguaje o la sabiduría humana, sino que resolví no hablarles sino de Jesucristo, más aún, de Jesucristo crucificado.

Me presenté ante ustedes débil y temblando de miedo. Cuando les hablé y les prediqué el Evangelio, no quise convencerlos con palabras de hombre sabio; al contrario, los convencí por medio del Espíritu y del poder de Dios, a fin de que la fe de ustedes dependiera del poder de Dios y no de la sabiduría de los hombres.

Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket;
   it is set on a lampstand,
   where it gives light to all in the house.
Just so, your light must shine before others,
   that they may see your good deeds
   and glorify your heavenly Father.”

Mateo 5, 13-16

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: “Ustedes son la sal de la tierra. Si la sal se vuelve insípida, ¿con qué se le devolveré el sabor? Ya no sirve para nada y se tira a la calle para que la pise la gente.

Ustedes son la luz del mundo. No se puede ocultar una ciudad construida en lo alto de un monte; y cuando se enciende una vela, no se esconde debajo de una olla, sino que se pone sobre un candelero, para que alumbre a todos los de la casa.

Que de igual manera brille la luz de ustedes ante los hombres, para que viendo las buenas obras que ustedes hacen, den gloria a su Padre, que está en los cielos”.
