Podcast Transcript

Hi and welcome to the Modern Psalmist Podcast. I’m Rebecca De La Torre.

This weekend we’re celebrating the 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year C.

The readings for today focus on God’s chosen people, and the privilege of being called to serve him.

Both the psalm and communion antiphon for this weekend exalt the Lord, bless those called to serve him, and praise his care for his chosen ones.

The psalm response is taken from chapter 33:

“Blessed the people the Lord has chosen to be his own.”

In the verses, we are reminded how blessed we truly are to be called to serve:

“Blessed the nation whose God is the LORD,
the people he has chosen for his own inheritance.”

In another verse, we invoke his promises to his faithful:

“May your kindness, O LORD, be upon us
who have put our hope in you.”

Here is my musical interpretation of “Psalm 33: Blessed the People”

Psalm 33: Blessed the People [19th OT C]

The communion antiphon for this weekend continues to inspire praise. Taken from Psalm chapter 147, the response reads:

“O Jerusalem, glorify the Lord,
who gives you your fill of finest wheat.”

And the verses therein continue to give us reasons to extol the Lord, saying

“He established peace on your borders”

and

“he has blessed your children within you.”

Communion Antiphon – 19th OT
