This is the blessed Lawrence,
who gave himself up for the treasure of the Church:
for this he earned the suffering of martyrdom
to ascend with joy to the Lord Jesus Christ.

First Reading

2 Corinthians 9:6-10

Brothers and sisters:
Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly,
   and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.
Each must do as already determined, without sadness or compulsion,
   for God loves a cheerful giver.
Moreover, God is able to make every grace abundant for you,
   so that in all things, always having all you need,
   you may have an abundance for every good work.
As it is written:

He scatters abroad, he gives to the poor;
his righteousness endures forever.

The one who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food
will supply and multiply your seed
and increase the harvest of your righteousness.

Primera Lectura

2 Corintios 9, 6-10

Hermanos:
Recuerden que el que poco siembra, cosecha poco,
y el que mucho sienbra, cosecha mucho.
Cada cual dé lo que su corazón la diga
y no de mala gana ni por compromiso,
pues Dios ama al que da con alegría.
Y poderoso es Dios para colmarlos de todo clase de favores,
a fin de que, teniendo siempre todo lo necesario,
puedan participar generosamente en toda obra buena.
Como dice la Escritura:
Repartió manos llenas a los pobres;
su justicia permanece eternamente.

Dios, que proporciona la semilla al sembrador
y le da pan para comer,
les proporcionará a ustedes una cosecha abundante
y multiplicará los frutos de su justicia.

Blessed the man who is gracious and lends to those in need.

Blessed the man who fears the LORD,
who greatly delights in his commands.

who conducts his affairs with justice;
He shall never be moved;
the just one shall be in everlasting remembrance.

   will preserve it for eternal life.
Whoever serves me must follow me,
   and where I am, there also will my servant be.
The Father will honor whoever serves me.

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos:
“Yo les aseguro que si el grano de trigo sembrado en la tierra,
no muere, queda infecundo;
pero si muere, producirá mucho fruto.
El que se ama a sí mismo, se pierde;
el que se aborrece a sí mismo en este mundo,
se asegura para la vida eterna.

El que quiera servirme, que me siga,
para que donde yo esté, también esté mi servidor.
El que me sirve será honrado por mi Padre.”
