First Reading
Numbers 21:4b-9
With their patience worn out by the journey,
the people complained against God and Moses,
“Why have you brought us up from Egypt to die in this desert,
where there is no food or water?
We are disgusted with this wretched food!”
In punishment the LORD sent among the people saraph serpents,
which bit the people so that many of them died.
Then the people came to Moses and said,
“We have sinned in complaining against the LORD and you.
Pray the LORD to take the serpents from us.”
So Moses prayed for the people, and the LORD said to Moses,
“Make a saraph and mount it on a pole,
and if any who have been bitten look at it, they will live.”
Moses accordingly made a bronze serpent and mounted it on a pole,
and whenever anyone who had been bitten by a serpent
looked at the bronze serpent, he lived.
Primera Lectura
Números 21, 4-9
En aquellos días, el pueblo se impacientó y murmuró contra Dios y contra Moisés, diciendo: ¿Para qué nos sacaste de Egipto? ¿Para que muriéramos en el desierto? No tenemos pan ni agua y ya estamos hastiados de esta miserable comida.
Entonces envió Dios contra el pueblo serpientes venenosas, que los mordían y murieron muchos israelitas. El pueblo acudió a Moisés y le dijo: Hemos pecado al murmurar contra el Señor y contra ti. Ruega al Señor que aparte de nosotros las serpientes. Moisés rogó al Señor por el pueblo y el Señor le respondió: Haz una serpiente como ésas y levántala en un palo. El que haya sido mordido por las serpientes y mire la que tú hagas, vivirá. Moisés hizo una serpiente de bronce y la levantó en un palo; y si alguno era mordido y miraba la serpiente de bronce, quedaba curado.

Philippians 2:6-11
Brothers and sisters:
Christ Jesus, though he was in the form of God,
did not regard equality with God something to be grasped.
Rather, he emptied himself,
taking the form of a slave,
coming in human likeness;
and found human in appearance,
he humbled himself,
becoming obedient to the point of death,
even death on a cross.
Because of this, God greatly exalted him
and bestowed on him the name
which is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus
every knee should bend,
of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue confess that
Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
Segunda Lectura
Filipenses 2, 6-11
Cristo, siendo Dios,
no consideró que debía aferrarse
a las prerrogativas de su condición divina,
sino que, por el contrario, se anonadó a sí mismo
tomando la condición de siervo,
y se hizo semejante a los hombres.
Así, hecho uno de ellos, se humilló a sí mismo
y por obediencia aceptó incluso la muerte,
y una muerte de cruz.
Por eso Dios lo exaltó sobre todas las cosas
y le otorgó el nombre que está sobre todo nombre,
para que, al nombre de Jesús, todos doblen la rodilla
en el cielo, en la tierra y en los abismos,
y todos reconozcan públicamente que Jesucristo es el Señor,
para gloria de Dios Padre.

John 3:13-17
Jesus said to Nicodemus:
“No one has gone up to heaven
except the one who has come down from heaven, the Son of Man.
And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert,
so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.”
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son,
so he who believes in him might not perish
but might have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world,
but that the world might be saved through him.

Juan 3, 13-17
En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a Nicodemo: Nadie ha subido al cielo sino el Hijo del hombre, que bajó del cielo y está en el cielo. Así como Moisés levantó la serpiente en el desierto, así tiene que ser levantado el Hijo del hombre, para que todo el que crea en él tenga vida eterna.
Porque tanto amó Dios al mundo, que le entregó a su Hijo único, para que todo el que crea en él no perezca, sino que tenga vida eterna. Porque Dios no envió a su Hijo para condenar al mundo, sino para que el mundo se salvara por él.
